Prosecutors often say "We don't make the laws, we only enforce the law" This is deeply misleading, NO legislation gets passed without first being vetted by prosecutors associations.

It is just crazy how much power prosecutors have - they get 90% of criminal justice resources, they are barely subject to election, even judges are loathe to cross them for fear that the area prosecutors associations will come out against them in the next election

They have all of the leverage, the lion's share of the resources, a system designed to allow them to force plea bargains in well-over 90% of cases, judges won't fight, they rarely face electoral opposition, and they even get reight of refusal on legislation
