The repetitive movements can be distressing for people with Tourette’s syndrome causing repetitive strain and be very painful. One of my tics is to continuously frown which causes excruciating headaches.
For others with TS vocal or visible tics can feel embarrassing and is something we try to hide, I’ve done it all my life and it’s become totally unconscious now, though I am trying to be more myself and not ‘mask’ or hold in my tics as much.
Tics or symptoms of TS are usually more severe when people with the condition are feeling stressed or depressed - and often tics can totally disappear when in total concentration mode. For me, I don’t tic when I sing!
Although we don’t know the reason why, Tourette’s is x4 more common among males than females. Some famous people with TS: David Beckham Billie Eilish Seth Rogan
I’m not sure if anyone will read or take interest in this but it’s something I feel passionately about to raise awareness on. If you’ve read this far, thank you for taking an interest
