Really appreciate the work from , Center for Assessment, and that helped inform my thinking. Would also be remiss if I didn’t mention how hard has worked to be sure that their fall findings were accurately represented.

Spring data could be abused, most harming our most vulnerable. We can be smart about this, and the Feds can take the lead. My latest , where I draw a line in the sand and declare “No Test-Takin Without Contextualization!”

Colombia will allow 1.7 million Venezuelan migrants who have fled their country's staggering economic crisis to stay for 10 years. The decision was hailed by a U.N. official as “the most important humanitarian gesture” in the region in decades.

I am becoming increasingly concerned by the phenomena of students not returning to school because they began working when schools went remote this past spring. Can’t tell you the number of stories I’m hearing from high school educators whose students are missing class bc of work.

Mardi Gras parades got canceled by Covid-19. So people in New Orleans turned their houses into floats. Some 3,000 homes across New Orleans and its suburbs -- even some as far away as Luxembourg -- are dolled up for the inaugural Krewe of House Floats.

The class size discussion is so frustrating to me because I’ve taught classes of 30 third graders and classes of 17... I know my classes of 17 got better, more individualized attention. Any educator will tell you what Cardona said today.

Cardona hit the nail on the head, pointing out that correlation ≠ causation, a huge issue with class size studies that have largely downplayed the supports better performing schools have had with the same class sizes as lower performing schools. Great answer!

(Romney suggests that we could eyeball state NAEP scores to determine that class size doesn't really matter😬. Cardona rightly corrects him that correlation is not causation.)

“When I have 15 students in front of me as opposed to 28 students in front of me, I’m able to give more specialized attention.” Cardona, drawing on teaching experience, on classroom size.

“(ELLs) shouldn’t be an afterthought.” Cardona emphasizes representation of different student populations, including English Language Learners, at the policy development stages, rather than being incorporated once policies are already created. So important!
