One show I’ve noticed is anti-circumcision on several occassions is Scrubs. At least three characters (Carla, Jordan and Jill Tracey) indicate they’re either against it, or haven’t had it done to their own children.

How are they viewed though? Consistently, intact advocates have something wrong with them. Cramer in Seinfeld is the “weirdo” who wants to stop the bris. The slutty friend in Sex and the City is the one who prefers circumcised penises. Etc.

Two of the characters are very strong women (Carla and Jordan). The third is a woman who is nice but a bit highly strung and a manic depressive. Carla is a nurse who is asked by her patient about circumcising her baby son. She says she isn’t a fan and would often wonder

Because she “told him how I feel about circumsising babies. Over my dead body!”. I was nice to see it being questioned by strong characters.

Just remembered a fourth instance when a young teen has been admitted for phimosis and other alternatives are suggested by the (once again, strong female urologist). Circ isn’t mentioned as a treatment option.
