It is mothers who take their daughters to have their clitoris cut off by another woman. It is done because men prefer to have a cut wife. We hold down our screaming five-year-old daughters and allow a woman to take a razor to her genitals because a man will prefer her that way.https://twitter.com/merionwest/status/1052236009239445504 …

Can you even imagine a FATHER taking his SON for "cultural" EMASCULATION ???

Unfortunately yes - it's known as circumcision. It's common in Judaism and Islam for religious reasons and in the USA for cultural ones.

Cutting off a clitoris is hardly comparable to circumcision!!

I agree that (that version of) FGM is a lot worse than circumcision, but they're both genital mutilation as far as I'm concerned.

Removal of the clitoral hood is another form of FGM and is directly analogous to male circumcision.

Speaking as someone with some personal experience of this matter, I think it's unhelpful to say the least to liken male circumcision to FGM.

If you say it’s unhelpful to liken the two, then I’m afraid you are not experienced enough. That, or you hope others haven’t done their research. When you zoom out of the myopic narrative male infant
#circumcision advocates push, one can clearly see there is no difference.#i21 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -

"There is no difference" is obviously untrue.

And why isn’t #circumcision as it is performed in US hospitals compared with #FGM performed in South East Asian hospitals? Is it because male circumcision is actually WORSE in this case? The @AmerAcadPeds admitted it in 2010 when they approved a “ritual nick.”#i2pic.twitter.com/nIkXC0bewE
