It has been my privilege to serve as your State Senator for the past nine years, and EP County Attorney for over 17 years before that. I am sincerely grateful for your trust and confidence. After nearly three decades in elected office, I will not seek re-election in 2020. #txlege

PAY ATTN to redistricting in the #txlege this session. Gerrymandering is one of the #VoterSuppression tools successfully used by #Texas Republicans to maintain legislative control.

Jeff Timmer helped draw Michigan’s gerrymandered maps in 2011. He now says those maps contributed to the toxic politics of the Trump era. #fairmaps bridgemi.com/michigan-gover

Incredible thread. Read the entire thing, especially the part describing the #Capitol good old boy network and observed the need for #change starts there.

I really wish someone would call my Dad, a retired Capitol Hill police officer (37yrs), to talk about the difference in preparation. The stories he’s telling me about prep for Farrakhan and others vs why yesterday happened the way it did is mind blowing. cc @JoyAnnReid

. is honoring his position as a representative of ALL his constituents, and ALL Americans, instead of only his primary voters - and a subset of those, at that - as so many Republicans are doing.

“Pres Trump has disrespected the American voters, has dishonored the election system and has disgraced the office of the presidency. I'm confident we'll proceed as the Constitution demands and tell our supporters the truth, whether or not they want to hear it." - @SenatorRomney

Immoral— and practically speaking this is completely foolish. COVID-19 doesn’t discriminate, so why should our public health measures?

Nebraska's governor says undocumented workers in meat plants are not eligible for the #COVID19 vaccine because they are "not permitted to work in those facilities." Studies show: - 66% of Nebraska meat workers are undocumented - 69% of undocumented people are essential workers

This is why #ElPaso must lead the nation in responding. As a desert city, our future may be precarious unless we take steps now. #climatechange

Climate change is reshaping El Paso, with little attention from local policymakers. El Paso’s 3 hottest years on record have occurred in the past 4 years; 9 of our 11 hottest years have occurred since 2011. The impact of this change will be significant. elpasomatters.org/2020/12/31/202

I can understand voting no on both. I can understand voting no and then yes. But I just can’t understand how someone could vote yes on the 5,593-page bill of special-interest handouts, without even reading it, and then vote no on upping the individual relief checks to $2,000.

The Texas Supreme Court was on the right side of justice today. Make no mistake—these resources will never make up for the years taken from Alfred Dewayne Brown’s life, but they are the very least that the state can do to help him rebuild. 1/2

As the vaccine is distributed and hopes rise, people still need to care about each other and work hard to stay distanced and to not be a spreader.

Much of this is driven by non-compliant behavior. People who refuse. A president who doesn’t care. Essential workers we push out. People who live in poor working conditions. And Kristy Noem. 13/

His name is Jose Andres. He is an American. His disaster relief charity feeds millions of hungry people. He was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 for this work. They’ve fed 250,000 a day in the pandemic. Your words are shameful. washingtonian.com/2020/07/19/wor

Some nut foreigner was just on MSNBC demanding that Biden appoint a "Food Czar" to solve the "national hunger crisis." A dozen federal food programs is not enough! ncsl.org/research/human

Yet another data point showing Republicans lied about immigrants, and continue to do so. “Crime rates among undocumented immigrants are just a fraction of those of their U.S.-born neighbors, according to a first-of-its-kind analysis.” #txlege
