“Many startups are side projects of people from middle-class/lower middle-class, whose livelihoods are dependent upon success, leading to a skin in the game problem.” Another perspective of the flip-side which is just as common and not as favorable.

Skin in the game is any kind of personal investment. Lots of time and passion is great, but sadly the monetary part is important. Not enough monetary skin in the game can also be a problem. People from big tech & privilege have the monetary part down.
