Twitter "Verified" is an artificial stacking of the deck that has deep downstream effects in the connected network. Though it is up to the user to have mental discipline to cast aside low-quality signals, it is unethical to artificially boost their engagement on the back-end.

Verified account status definition by Twitter: "The blue verified badge on Twitter lets people know that an account of public interest is authentic." Pseudo-"news" journalists DO NOT act in the public interest, in fact, they actively work to subvert it.

"Journalist" accounts are NOT authentic. Most of them are solely used for facilitating a coordinated propaganda dissemination strategy that preys on humans biological emotive responses in order to maximize traffic/engagement to monetize their agency.

Many "journalist" Twitter accounts are REQUIRED by their employer. These accounts are not authentic. Qualifications for comment: I worked directly with Twitter's API for 4 years. Feel free to add your own suggestions below. Enjoy hearing what others think.

By altering the criteria for "Verified" accounts, Twitter could incentivize the creation of content that benefits society, instead of maximum engagement. 3. Twitter could reward users for engagement via a token/credit system, usable on their Square ($SQ) payment infrastructure.
