What on earth can be done to make the public trust journalists more? How about flipping the question: What can journalists do to be more trustworthy? I have a suggestion. Whenever possible, publish full audio, video, or text of interviews. (Redact any off-the-record portions.)

The public has subconsciously realized that journalism exists for only 2 reasons: 1. To financially benefit the subject of the story. 2. To financially benefit the institution trying to sell the story. There is NO motive to do actual journalism anywhere in this business model.

I don't think that's strictly true because a lot of journalists are earnest true believers. (Once the scales fell from my eyes, I quickly got burnt out and had to leave the industry. I just couldn't do it.) But I take your point because yes, the economic incentives are powerful

I’m sure there are plenty of well-intentioned journalists. But there’s also plenty of well-intentioned Monsanto and Goldman Sachs employees too. The problem is a misalignment of economic incentives on a global scale of information dissemination.
