Any productivity innovation in tech that renders a meaningful % of programmers unnecessary, will cause an economic crisis. Automation of data analysis or programming is a systemic threat to the economy as it will drive profits into an ever contracting funnel. (Blockchain?)

By the time technology like machine learning replaces the need for programmers, we will be capable of a technocracy which provides basic necessities for all people. The near future will be the access to tools which decrease the need to know a programming language.

Capable* is the key word there. “Technocracy which provides basic necessities for all” is a CHOICE. That is not an expected outcome in the game theory tree we are currently operating under. Ex. Bezos is capable of using his money to help the homeless in Seattle. He does not.

@JeffBezos could get into banking, real estate, mental health research, autonomous greenhouses, intelligent clothing, and education... And that still wouldn't solve the homeless problem entirely. If you have an obvious solution, I would love to read about it.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

My point is that just because there is an option that might be of higher utility to many, doesn’t not mean it will be chosen. Especially when the decision will be up to a few (or determined by profit motive). Seems to me the highest utility for shareholders is the path chosen.

I understand your point and that makes sense. Profit motive does neglect many kinds of good work which isn't immediately profitable. But the profit motive also rewards many kinds of good work. There might be an infinite amount of profitable good work just waiting to be funded.
