Always be developing your skills stack in such a way that you can walk away. When you do this, good employers will want to keep you.

Well, the only problem is that employers will only want to keep you if your skill set directly contributes to profitability they can use for their own benefit. It’s essentially a transfer of wealth (skills + knowledge) into a diminishing returns hierarchy.
