The most consistent advocates of open borders are libertarians, and Rubin doesn’t seem to have any problems with them.

Yeah that’s just absurd position to hold. He goes a little too far down the libertarian rabbit hole for me

I don’t think she was talking about the inciting incident, but rather the people he said need a new home. Also, while this shift is dangerous, I don’t think declaring the party to be entirely usurped is particularly helpful.
-
Is it truthful though? Personally I think yes.
-
I don’t. An interview he himself did this year gave me hope in that regard. There are still sane democrats, and this very blanket demonization is what I detest so much in the extremes of both sides.
-
I agree that there is a danger in demonizing, but I feel there is an equal danger in not acknowledging when a party member, or policy, strays too far and is doing nothing more than pandering to the fringe.
-
Sure there is, but this goes beyond acknowledgement, and (to me at least) undercuts his stated values. It’s also self contradictory. If it’d been wholly swallowed, there wouldn’t be people who still need to leave.
-
I think he still values the idea of the great experiment that is the USA, so when there is talk about borderless countries and post state identity this goes against that foundational underpinning of what the country is and how it got there.
-
Yep, but still doesn’t mean that the entire party adheres to those beliefs

If you look at the work of someone like Philip Cole it could be argued that modern egalitarian liberalism is entirely compatible with open borders.
