It is an oligarchy (corporations) responding to the shadow emotions of a vocal few for pr purposes (fear of being called racist etc), and then reinforcing this culturally by tailoring marketing strategy (ie almost any ad since 2013) to identity politics.

I agree with you, I think it is mob rule, but it’s being spread via corporations and marketing into culture now.
