I'm conflicted on this. I admire @MaajidNawaz (& others the SPLC has defamed). But I am concerned abt the #FreeSpeech implications. Calling people racists, Nazis & extremists, who aren't, is stupid. When you have a large reach, you have an inherent responsibility to not abuse it. Unfortunately, this needs to be addressed via gov policy. This seems to fxn “good enough” in practice, where people with little influence who defame, have free speech + don’t get sued.

All these arguments could also be made with regard to hate speech, too, which I strongly feel should be legal (currently, in two of my three countries, it's not). Speech can be harmful. But restricting speech is even more so.

But I can see that the fact that one party is an institution, the other an individual, changes things somewhat.
