I mean, the point of pretty much ANY piece of media in a franchise is to create new, recurring, fans. In this way, Mando is doing just that. It feels easy enough for casual audiences to enjoy on its own, yet has enough connections to suck them in for more and more.

FWIW, I imagine that's how the show will STAY. These bigger connections/namedrops we're getting are essentially setups for future stories, that won't necessarily be apart of the show. The show will remain a Din & Grogu adventure that sometimes intersects w/ other tales.

For example, I've got a couple buddies at work who have NEVER been into Star Wars, but have loved watching
#TheMandalorian. After the Bo-Katan episode they messaged me asking about where they should start with other movies/the cartoons. Something they wouldn't have before.Deze collectie tonen

This might be a better way to look at it. Right now I feel like it's really trying to pull in too many directions, but you do make a good point about it being a point of entry for folks who aren't die-hard fans

I'm curious, would you like it more or prefer if it wasn't that? I love what they've done so far but hope the scope of the show remains relatively small and focused on Mando and the child with the reunification of the Mandalorians and taking back Mandalore as the endgame.

I think that's how it will end up being. Much like how MCU has namedrops in other movies that don't necessarily impact the story being told in THAT film, but could pay off in another.

something to be said for luring casuals in with almost-Boba-Fett and then giving them Bo-Katan and Ahsoka and Cobb Vanth

I think there’s way too much of it this season and that combined with the kind of side-questy nature of the show (meets character, does something for character, character tells him to go somewhere else rinse and repeat) it’s making the show feel less solid than S1

Between the short episode count and the heavy cameos impacting those 3-4 episodes it’s really skewed the season to the point where I’m BEGGING for Gideon to come back into it because even though he has a connection to other stuff he feels readymade for this show
