1/ It’s foolish to believe that “the old plant” is going to reopen and save the town. It’s disingenuous for politicians to say they are “bringing back manufacturing/coal mining to America” as that ship has sailed and is never coming back.

2/ why? Because the very jobs that used to employ that whole town do not exist anymore, no more than the steam locomotive. More importantly, they are never coming back. Jobs today require new ideas, special skills and new training.

3/ we cant keep allowing people to think that a high school education and “go get ‘em” attitude is going to pay the bills anymore. No, it doesn’t require a college degree either but special vocational training in industrial controls and robotics at a minimum.

4/ we need to rebuild our entire educational system. Countries like Italy and Germany have been using university, vocational and apprenticeships as a holistic solution to prepare their citizens for well over 30 years successfully.
