If I’m recalling correctly, Bernie organizers got out-organized by Biden in the primary, seeing as Biden won overwhelmingly. So I’m not sure why anyone should care what they thinkhttps://twitter.com/ryangrim/status/1260980151912992769 …

Bernie organizers warn that Trump is wildly out-organizing Biden. That could matter in a close-race in a pandemic. https://medium.com/@berniealums/taking-on-trump-and-beyond-learnings-from-bernie-2020-national-organizing-staff-31f274ace92b …

I’ve seen 1,000 people make this point, which I get feels clever but can you unpack it? Do you think the campaign that wins is therefore perfect and can’t improve and the campaign that lost did nothing right and can’t be learned from?

The answer to the latter question is no, but these organizers "organized" on behalf of a failed campaign -- which failed despite its massive organizational resources. Why then are they touted as speaking from a place of authority on what it takes to succeed organizationally?

They’re not monolithic and they certainly succeeded in some places and even Silver Medalists surely have some degree of expertise in their field.

They do but it should at least be coupled with a thoroughgoing recognition that... they lost. And in this case, lost badly -- despite huge advantages. Which should presumably to some extent undermine their self-conception as leading authorities on the subject matter at hand.

I suspect the recognition of their loss is already pretty thoroughgoing, but if the point of flagging that is to undermine their authority wouldn’t it be more to the point to show how they’re wrong? Or maybe I’m missing the point.

I don't know, I wasn't particularly interested in hearing Hillary 2016 organizers congratulate themselves for what a fantastic organizational job they did.

Don;t think you or anyone else was questioning their organizing abilities when @BernieSanders was on 60 minutes as frontrunner headed into South Carolina--after winning Iowa, NH, and Nevada largely bc of their superior on-the-ground organizing...contrary 2 corp media propaganda

For one thing he didn't "win" Iowa, you can raise whatever objections you want about the Iowa process -- many legitimate -- but according to the officially verified results, Buttigieg won the most delegates in Iowa, which is the metric for determining who wins the caucus. Sorry.

For a contrarian who usually opposes nonsense official govt lines, surprised u simply accept Pete as Iowa winner based on laughable state delegate equivalent. My hunch is if @TulsiGabbard won final vote by 2K votes, you'd call her the winner...just like Sanders won.

It's easy for folks like u & others from the comfy confines of Twitter to poo poo organizing. But I've had the good fortune of covering 2 campaigns mostly on the ground--this year in Iowa, NH, SC, and CA. Organizing ultimately won't matter if the actual candidate makes fatal..

flaws and refuses to actually go after his opponents. But I've seen up close actually covering Bernie's unprecedented volunteer operation---anyone who says that simply had no effect and minimizes it doesn't actually understand electoral politics. With a MASSIVE media disadvantage

one of the only ways a progressive candidate can actually compete is with a robust organizing operation and door to door contacts. That can't be the main structure that is relied upon--but it's simply wrongheaded to dismiss Bernie's operation simply bc he ultimately lost. But...
