Everyone will dunk on @jonathanchait for this “Bernie is a risky nominee” piece, but he is right about this: The progressives who tried to prove that they could flip red seats in 2018 got rinsed. http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/01/bernie-sanders-electable-trump-2020-nomination-popular-socialism.html …pic.twitter.com/k2vKloPZc0

Strange to cover politics for a living keep using a midterm election as a measuring stick for a presidential election---when historically, it's apples and oranges as far as voter turnout and demographics.

Also suspicious that people like Chait deliberately leave out Bernie has historically done well in conservative/rural areas

Bernie has traditionally won rural/conservative areas in Vermont. Also won those in Iowa in 2016 and several other primary states. Won primary in Indiana and Oklahoma. Lost primary in Missouri and Kentucky by less than a point.

Sure he has. Bernie won one large state, diverse state primary last time -- Michigan, barely. Only caucuses where upper middle class or rich can participate or small white states. That's it for a fact.

So your argument is Bernie would struggle in diverse states against the GOP? Lol brilliant

It’s a lot stranger to compare primary results to general election results than it is to compare midterms to presidential election years.

Also leaving out obama supported triple those Sanders did. Sanders supported 24 nominees winning 16 of them. Obama supported 74 winning 38 of them. Also you miss Biden supporting endorsing 57 and winning 35 of those

Bernie in every single one of his races over turned republican seats and made the whole state blue. Vermont was deeply red until Bernie ran for mayor. Was deeply red until he ran for governor. Was deeply red for over 100 years until he ran for Senate. It hasnt turned red since.
