No, that's not what I believe. As you already know. But Trump absolutely withheld aid for personal political gain and that's an abuse of power. (that I'm against the aid as policy is irrelevant). I've already stated I'd vote yes on article 1 and no on article 2.

But the point is, the article was explicitly worded such that it's accusing Trump of committing treason on behalf of Russia. They could've worded it narrowly to just cover the Biden reference, and they didn't do that. Instead they infused it with militaristic Cold War bullshit.

I see a hell of a lot about Ukraine & the withheld aid etc in article 1 here my guy.https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/12/10/us/politics/articles-impeachment-document-pdf.html …

The article says Trump "betrayed the Nation" and the Judiciary Committee report defines "betraying the nation" as committing treason to benefit a country with whom we are in a state of war (Russia)https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1206780602608996352 …

So essentially, House Democrats have accused Trump of "treason" (see left) but are too cowardly to state this explicitly in the articles of impeachment (see right) -- but the direct inference is there for all to see pic.twitter.com/D5TkneMCLR

Dude what? The thing you cite on the left isn't in the articles. And the thing on the right you underline goes on to say "...by abusing his high office to enlist a foreign power in corrupting democratic elections" -- that's about Ukraine not Russia!

The thing on the left is from the House Judiciary Committee report. That's the committee which drafted the articles of impeachment. They wrote a report to explain why they wrote the articles in the way they did, and it's absolutely littered with militaristic Cold War BS.pic.twitter.com/SZVMoAA3ZL

Article one in its final version as I sent you very clearly is referring to him withholding the allotted aid from Ukraine for personal gain. He definitely did that and it definitely makes sense to vote yes on that article.

Only if you're willing to endorse the Cold War premises and Russiagate fantasies that the *drafters of the impeachment articles* explicitly cited as their rationale for why they drafted the articles the way they did. I'm glad at least one member of Congress saw through this BSpic.twitter.com/9fkqCV5AgN

1-If it's BS vote no, not present (as I would do on art 2) 2-I just told you I'm not accepting the cold war premise but I still vote yes on article 1. No need to tell me how I feel about it 3-Idc about their rationalizations. Art 1 as I sent you is clearly abt Ukraine & he did it

4- Reading article 1 on its own divorced from why they say they did it, it's obviously about withholding allotted aid from Ukraine for personal gain, which he clearly did. Stupefied that you can't admit that.

Michael has a mental block when it comes to nuanced thinking that processes 2 thoughts simultaneously 1) RussiaGate is bs 2) Trump withheld aid in order to extract political favor. Acknowledging #2 has nothing to do with Russiagate or Dems’ impeachment motives

You can theoretically separate #2 from #1 but the articles of impeachment explicitly fuse them together, as evidenced by a huge body of evidence, including the text of the actual impeachment articles. So #1 and #2 are inseparable in the context of this impeachment vote.

I read both articles. There’s nonsense on Russia in there but Article 1 is pretty clear in describing Trump and Ukraine. Your argument hinges on semantics—a lawmaker shouldn’t vote yes on clear wrongdoing by the president when it comes to Ukraine bc there’s stuff in the articles
