But why can't Chariton concede even this theoretical point? I find that alarming and incredibly disappointing. I don't have any personal investment in either of them, but to see how fragile Chariton's understanding of basic free speech principles in HAS to be shocking.

Free speech rights do not shield you from losing money. In the case of Crowder that’s what happened. He wasn’t kicked off YouTube-he was demonetized. There’s been TONS of examples of celebrities or athletes who say or do awful things that lose endorsement/TV deals.

This notion that u should be able to say whatever the fuck you want at all times with no penalty ever is not actually what free speech guarantees. It guarantees you the right to EXPRESS YOURSELF-not that there will never be a repercussion. If someone wants to express themselves

By hurling homophobic slurs at someone—that’s their right and they should be able to. BUT it is NOT THEIR RIGHT to make money from it. You can lose money or approval from society based on your free speech. This is not tyranny—it’s how it’s always been and should be

It is someone’s guaranteed first amendment right to make money off of their free speech? I’d love to see this part of the constitution you’ve invented in your head

So nobody has the right to make a living? You've just made the most anti-labor, oligarch argument possible. Just to avoid admitting that you jumped the gun without thinking this through. Really disappointed in you.

Robert now I have to defend Jordan... stop insulting people. This is a complicated issue. Jordan is right when he says no one has a right to be monetized. I personally don’t think crowder should be kicked off but not being monetized isn’t the same thing.

No, nobody can be coerced into driving up Crowder's ad revenue by watching his videos. But Crowder has the right to pursue a career in publishing, which demonetizing forecloses. There'a a huge difference.

No he doesn’t have a RIGHT to profit if his product is based on bigotry. He has a right to be bigoted—but nowhere does it say that free speech right also comes with the right to profit.

Then don't watch his videos. Encourage other people not to watch is videos either. Don't go running to Big Brother. Is that really too complicated for you to understand?
