penalized. It's really not that complicated Michael. I think in your quest to be the contrair to everything you've kind of lost of sight of the difference between daily mocking and ridicule of a public figure with open hatred and bigotry.

Or maybe he just thinks differently. I’m a gay guy here and a progressive and a Latino and I have suffered in the past for it BUT I do think Michael has a point. I don’t think it’s useful to accuse him of being some edge lord contrarian.. there are many who share his concerns

That's very generous of you. Tracey could maybe have framed it more diplomatically, but as you say, that really is the bottom line. Chariton's completely disproportionate reaction makes him seem personally insecure.

Again I’m not interested in psychoanalyzing either of them or impugning their character via said pop psych evaluation when I don’t know either of them. I’m more interested in the arguments. I haven’t fully made up my mind BUT I do think Michael has a point.

But why can't Chariton concede even this theoretical point? I find that alarming and incredibly disappointing. I don't have any personal investment in either of them, but to see how fragile Chariton's understanding of basic free speech principles in HAS to be shocking.

Free speech rights do not shield you from losing money. In the case of Crowder that’s what happened. He wasn’t kicked off YouTube-he was demonetized. There’s been TONS of examples of celebrities or athletes who say or do awful things that lose endorsement/TV deals.

The problem isn’t someone like Crowder being FINANCIALLY penalized (he was not kicked off YouTube). The problem is YouTube’s draconian reaction that punishes other innocent journalists for nothing. So you can be

It is someone’s guaranteed first amendment right to make money off of their free speech? I’d love to see this part of the constitution you’ve invented in your head
