Here is a quote from the study: "There are concerns that the metal may also play a causative role in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease (PD)." As you can see, the author is stating this as a hypothesis, not settled fact.

I just finished a set of research briefs on neurodegenerative diseases (AD and PD) and the consensus is that most environmental factors can exacerbate the pathology of PD, but not cause it--the exception is certain pesticides, which may cause it.
