what they say that he did here is so blatant over the top that there is plainly a corrupt intent to interfere with the investigative process (versus minimize PR, news coverage damage). The factual predicates laid out are obstruction. Period. 2/

Interference with an ongoing investigation qualifies as obstruction. The point is, is it obstruction to tell people to lie for you if they don't do it?

I don't think that's really the argument (or the argument in full). If you didn't commit an underlying crime, it would seem you'd have less of a reason to obstruct so it weighs away from obstruction. The political theater aspect weighs away from obstruction. BUT... 1/
