Bad take by @BernieSanders, who knows better---the U.S. is not offering humanitarian aid for any reason other than as point of entry for its coup of the Maduro government--which will then lead to mass privatization and suffering for the people of Venezuelahttps://twitter.com/SenSanders/status/1099380342018912257 …

The people of Venezuela are enduring a serious humanitarian crisis. The Maduro government must put the needs of its people first, allow humanitarian aid into the country, and refrain from violence against protesters.

Yeah..don't think he realizes by humanitarian aid what we really mean is war...we'll bring you war. We always have. Our record in Central and South America is horrific. And Elliott Abrams??? Come on!!!! Someone need to talk to Bernie about this, and FAST!!!!

They're trying to bring in weapons under the guise of humanitarian aid. The correct take would be for the US to cease sanctions so the Venezuelans DON'T need aid. It's like punching someone in the face then sighing they need bandages.

Plus, Venezuela is accepting aid from plenty of countries, just not the US.

As the nominal leader of what is supposed to be the left in the US, getting the root assumptions wrong in this narrative have disastrous results for the prospects of progressive reform inside the US. He is most often imbued with the imperialist narrative.

I've been calling for that aid to be routed to Ecuador that just had a 7.5 earth quake. Or better yet the best aid is lifting sanctions on the country ... but I guess regime change is what we're going with.

The majority of Venezuela's economy is already privately held. Chavez and Maduro only nationalized a few key industries. The one that caught our attention was the oil industry.
