Don't understand progressives defending @TuckerCarlson against advertiser pull-out. I agree advertisers should't influence content (even though they do across media) but Carlson's hate speech should't be confused w/ free speech. If he wants to push bigotry, there are consequences

One person's legitimate opinion is another's hate speech. What if people start calling criticism of bankers hate speech. Or, even more plausibly, what if insulting a cop becomes considered hate speech?

I would agree with you then--but that's not what we are talking about. We're talking about clear white supremacy that no objective person would consider in a grey area. He has the right to say it; advertisers have right to pull it

You prove "hate speech" is a vague term that can be used to mean any objectionable speech. Very slippery slope. Free speech includes hate speech

Calling immigrants dirty falls under free speech. It's also hateful and bigoted. If advertisers don't want their product or brand attached with that, that's their right. If @FoxNews wants their brand attached with that, it's their right to keep him on the air.

I think they fear knee jerk “adpocalypse”-type reactions from risk adverse corporations, where everyone becomes scared of advertising on any programming with even a hint of controversy. But then you had Nike, who realized their target market was firmly on one side of an issue.

If we want a free market of ideas, then it also needs to stand up to the free market of economics. Boycotts are a very real tool to bring about changes via the free market. Even the adpocalypse itself, was a boycott of advertising by corporations to force YouTube to fix itself.

Don't care if advertisers pull out of Tucker's show, that's their right but I don't want you or anyone else deciding what is "hate" speech. All speech has to be protected, even speech you may find offensive. The 1st was designed to protect offensive speech, so all would have it.

I don't know what we can do about it, or what we SHOULD do about it, but i know that it is terribly dangerous if any voice can be silenced by attacking funding or hosting services for funding(like patreon recently dumped a bunch of right-wingers). That can be weaponized.

I don't want large corporations being the arbiters of what is and isn't acceptable speech.

Not sure. Social media promote a lynch-mob, single-issue mentality. As @ggreenwald said, if one has been in a persecuted minority, one is leery about this mindset.
