THREAD: I will be bashed as a Trump defender & supporter (I'm not), but I am going to keep it real: the @nytimes publishing an op-ed from an anonymous senior official in Trump administration is journalistically terrible... https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/05/opinion/trump-white-house-anonymous-resistance.html …

If senior officials feel the country is in peril, they need to put their name to it and invoke the 25th amendment--the @nytimes allowing a senior official to do anonymous op-ed (may not even work in actual White House) is essentially gossip. Who knows he or she's motives...

Notion that senior officials are honorably staying silent to save the country instead of taking efforts to remove who they deem as an unstable president (he obviously is) is a bunch of nonsense. These officials want to have it both ways...become heroes in corporate media while..

also keeping their jobs. Trump deserves the majority of bad coverage he gets (even though majority covering him critically gave him unending coverage and $ 2 billion in free airtime during 2016 campaign)..but anonymous op-eds are way past any line of journalistic ethics

No it is not. “Duty honor country”. Comes first in importance before any President!

NY Times is extremely unethical and unprofessional in publishing defamatory statements based on “anonymous” source. Where is the accountability?

Some, one or several, in the White House are apparently now doing their best to distance themselves from President, to deflect blame from themselves, to avoid punishment, to salvage Republican dignity and respect, and to appear heroic. Very questionable. Very positioned.

Agreed. Also it feels like this person wants to be some sort of hero, "vowed to thwart..." Sigh. We don't need heroes. We need people to publicly do the right thing.

They can't. What would it do? The GOP controlled Congress won't do ANYTHING to stop him. The Oped shows us what's happening in a time where those who can act lack the political will to do so. If this person is part of a cabal of people in the admin keeping him from acting 1/

on his worst impulses, we need them to stay where they are - putting their name on that Oped would just ensure they were fired. One less person watching our backs.
