THREAD: Finally got time 2 read Mueller hacking indictment (been consumed w/ a separate story I'm working on). It's quite a document that states A LOT of disconcerting, SPECIFIC things AS FACT without providing supporting evidence to prove those facts. Presumably, Mueller would..

Replying to @JordanChariton @williamlegate
Do you understand that an indictment is handed up from a grand jury which sees evidence (that we won’t see till trial) to support the probable cause that the charged crime(s) occurred? Mueller doesn’t issue the indictment. You do journalism, right? You don’t know this?

Of course,
@bikelaine. I help people understand that every day. Why so terrified of the criminal justice system?0 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -

Nah. If you read his entire thread, he attributes the decision making to Mueller. Never once mentions a grand jury. A journalist should present the legal process accurately, especially if they attribute the charging decision to one person then call that decision into question.

The prosecutor is the 1 who calls 4 specific charges--it then goes 2 grand jury. But ur 100% right: grand jury has evidence in front of it that I don't. Which is why I offered a, GASP!, nuanced take...I don't have the evidence to judge, so I personally won't simply regurgitate

Call it what you will; however, nuanced is not synonymous with incomplete or inaccurate. Pearl-clutching at the typical indictment process failing your standard of proof and refusing to report facts while taking a morally superior tone smacks more of bias than nuance.

The Mueller indictment is essentially a non-fiction book written without footnotes or annotations to support the facts written. That is the point of my tweets. I think a lot of people are conflating what they WANT TO BELIEVE with what evidence has been made available.

Personally have no dog in fight--wouldn't surprise me @ all if Russian govt orchestrated a DNC/Podesta hack. If they did, should be exposed. I also think that's bad thing—but also believe in PROPORTIONAL outrage. U.S. has been interfering in other DEMOCRATIC countries 4 a century

Our history with election interference is well-documented and casts a cloud over our foreign relations. But it’s a logical fallacy to inject that point into the current situation.
