#bcclive WINNER - yes. This year, Council Tax covers just 11 PERCENT of @BhamCityCouncil's budget. So, the (sensible) assumption, held by many, that Council Tax covers universal local services, is way off.https://twitter.com/KennyEvil/status/968505316731211776 …

#bcclive If you have a problem with this, please tell every politician, civil servant or anyone who knows one of the above that you think places deserve better. No-one will change unless you tell them they must.1 antwoord 1 retweet 2 vind-ik-leuksDeze collectie tonen -
#bcclive ...and now you see the political twist - Council Tax is unpopular, regressive and dysfunctional, but if you want to get anywhere near to funding services properly, you have to increase it (assuming you can collect it). THIS IS NOT FINE,@mhclg.1 antwoord 0 retweets 2 vind-ik-leuksDeze collectie tonen -
#bcclive I am not being flippant here - but this amendment was tabled at 13:20. If the intention was to influence the Budget, I would have expected to see it weeks ago. Remember: Full Council is mummery, and the lines people speak will go into leaflets.1 antwoord 2 retweets 2 vind-ik-leuksDeze collectie tonen -
#bcclive @ClrMajidMahmood highlights that we took a decision recently (in line with@carolynharris24's campaign) to remove burial charges for deceased children: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/birmingham-scraps-child-burial-fees-12044371 …2 antwoorden 2 retweets 3 vind-ik-leuksDeze collectie tonen -
#bcclive So, the 'officer delegation' issue is an interesting one - there are some decisions (with spending attached) that some officers can take (within a defined budget and policy framework). All laid out with the constitution: https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/downloads/download/180/the_city_councils_constitution …1 antwoord 0 retweets 1 vind-ik-leukDeze collectie tonen -
#bcclive I am not saying they can't be improved upon and subject to better scrutiny (both true), but I don't think doing away with them is the answer. It would make it impossible for staff to work efficiently.1 antwoord 0 retweets 1 vind-ik-leukDeze collectie tonen -
#bcclive@LisaTrickett41 highlights the impact of Universal Credit on families (and therefore children) who receive Free School Meals -@AngelaRayner suggests it could be ONE MILLION children nationally:http://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/education-news/free-school-meals-children-miss-out-benefits-universal-credit-change-labour-families-households-a8200746.html …4 antwoorden 12 retweets 4 vind-ik-leuksDeze collectie tonen -
Disturbing. A policy decision by the present government it seems

I want to be fair, and if I was to be so, I would say that the concept of UC is not as much a problem as the cruel/botched design and implementation. But the point was always to spend less, rather than to meet need more efficiently.

Benefits were being squeezed before UC. Many of the architects wanted to simplify a complex system. If right this is a big change to the principles of FSM entitlement

I don't deny it (there is no perfect past to look back to) - but this is a seriously retrograde step that follows myriad others.
