It has congestion because it is a bottleneck for access into and through Birmingham, not just from Walsall but from large parts of north Birmingham.Whatever forms of transport we have in the future, there will still be 400,000 people with an interest in getting into the city.

Yes but as you well know 400,000 people in cars take up a lot more space than the same number using public transport or cycling.

Tristan tell me why the Perry Barr regeneration isnt providing high quality jobs so people don't have to travel so far to work? There's no strategy here.

How about all the new projects in Aston or Paradise or Smithfield. All within easy reach of Perry Barr.

Believe it or not the city centre's not walking distance. And cleatly I missed the new office blocks in Aston. Enlighten me.

I think advanced manufacturing counts as quality jobs. Do you not agree?

I don't know. All I have seen is warehousing. How many jobs are there?

I’ll have to check - but if you expect all housing developments to have jobs within walking distance then we hardly build any homes anywhere. Functional geography and the changing economy means most jobs are now concentrated in the city centre.

No but a dispersed local economy helps local centres to thrive. BCU provided significant jobs in the area and planning dept only allowed housing on that site when CWG came along. It was not in the area action plan. 'Policy' pendulum has swung from one to another with no middle.
