No one will argue with the need for better bus and rail provision but they require years of planning and levels of investment that are hard to deliver swiftly. Cycling is both sustainable, relatively inexpensive and has huge benefits for public health.

The train lines have the capacity to provide mass transit in several directions of the city and are relatively underused. Cycle lane funding was an initiative from the last year of the coalition 2014-2015 with some terrific Lib Dem transport ministers.

It’s a PR stunt. The Gridlock on the A34 from the motorway to Newtown is clear to be seen. Inner city Birmingham polluted every week day. The Cabinet Member for Transport’s own family is being polluted and it will get worse when the flyover comes down.
