@CllrMajid not earning any points for understanding how percentages work! 4% on each element of sum, means 4% on the whole sum.https://twitter.com/CllrMajid/status/1107612975207190528 …

Not looking to earn points, and I’ve said all along that there is a 4% on the basic allowance with 4% on the SRA allowance. It is a lot of money when savage cuts are being made to local services, and difficult to explain to consitutents when

Yes, i fully understand the wider point, but you incorrectly said its an 8% rise for those with SRAs and that is wrong. It's a 4% rise. I'm just asking for accuracy!

It is the spirit of the increase I was referring to not the literal interpretation. The fact is a Brummie bonus of £2635 for a leader when the basic is £16,592 is an increase of around 15.8% of “an allowance” one never expected when signing up as a Councillor.

No problem you criticising the increases, but why do you feel the need to inflate the %? It's a 4% increase. if you think that's wrong, fine. Don't mislead people into thinking it's an 8% or even 15.8% increase.

It is the public perception. I would actually stand by the 15.8% increase too as it the only “allowance” an elected member can expect upon declaration of the result. We need to remind ourselves that an allowance is not a wage.

Sorry, it is intended as a wage for foregone working hours. It is subject to all the taxes and rules surrounding earnings. Perhaps we should be asking who needs it.

It is but still not a wage as you cannot use it for income purposes when you apply for a mortgage with most lenders. We need to look at how we can attract the best individuals to public office with evening meetings and care facilities for kids etc

That's because there's no security of employment . They will treat it as a fixed term contract. Taxman sees a wage and remuneration panel specifies the days it pays for .
