I think this is partly demographic - the sorts of people who join political parties are basically fine whoever wins, so although they probably do care quite a bit, there's an element of detachment which can lead to treating it as a spectator sport.

Is it? The right has factional battles, but they're better at pulling together at election time, and also they keep winning. The People's Front Of Judea joke was written about the left in 1979

It is. The left needs to be more accepting of the soft left. But also, being an EU style social democrat puts you on the far left in the UK. And subject to somewhat unhinged criticism on a regular basis. Its not a good dynamic.

The left rallied around to support a compromise (Corbyn) and even gave Starmer the benefit of the doubt until he started a war with anyone to the left of Tony Blair. They’re perfectly accepting, something which is not reciprocated.
