Here is all the junk that a tiny indie pixel game has to do just to think about building a Linux executable: https://utopixel.games/en/blog/building-outer-wonders-for-linux/ … Windows used to be much better, but their modern spirit of embracing Linux seems to lead them to add similar problems to Windows.

I think the main thing there is their development platform is Windows, if it were swapped the same challenges occur but backwards.

This is mostly false and only would be claimed by people who have mostly Linux experience and very little Windows experience. Though as I said, they seem actively to be trying to make Windows worse.

I'm not sure I agree, though I do use Linux primarily :) Isn't this the thing tho, that blog is a pretty good guide imho, the common knowledge of Linux porting is targeting the glibc version from the oldest distro you care to support. I think that's ok

the main issue is that almost all game development requires windows for various reasons. windows is a large market, has a lot of tools available, and all current consoles use it as the official development platform. separate PCs just for linux would be a pain.

Sure, I'd say use whatever suits, I dont think I'm fussy on that really, my preferred platform is Linux, I find a lot of the surrounding tools in Windows _very_ weak. But in the end they both do a job
