CS grad students looking for thesis topics: develop a theory of input boxes that allows users to enter dates as the name of the month _or_ the number of the month. As you can tell from using Modern Software, this is an unsolved problem in computer science.

Be my guest if you ever find a feed-forward control for date/time forms.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

My favorite is when they force you to do it in their order instead of just swapping the dates if you entered them in the wrong order. You wrote the code to check, just write the code to swap.

I think this is a result of checklists of requirements and a "did the list check it in to source control" mindset

I had to fill out a payroll form last week that had a "select your employee start date" field. It _only had a calendar control_ for dates, so I had to click an "up" thing to put it into year mode, and click the left arrow _17 times_ to get back to 2004. This is "progress".

"Make hard things easy", was the mantra of UX not too long ago. Today it's "Don't make me think", which dumbs down easy things and makes hard things impossible.
