In fact that's small enough to give foolhardy people like me hope that we too could write our own language

Coming from functional programing, I find this scarily large. You know you can write a tiny, naive interpreter in ~500 lines?

this is not an interpreter.. and it targets multiple platforms.. and it's C++, which is obviously bloated

My recommendation is to ignore people like this. It is not worth your energy, because there are an infinite number of people on the internet doing the exact same thing. Arguing is not helpful on a medium filled with cheap, pointless argument.

FWIW, while poorly worded the goal of my tweet wasn't to argue against your compiler in any way but to emphasis that writing your own little language can be a surprisingly easy task (making it full featured, useful and production ready still isn't, of course).

Yeah I know, I was doing that in 1990.
