How many web developers understand that a low-end integrated GPU on a laptop can draw full 4k screens of pixels at 3000 frames per second?

This take fails to understand what makes rendering high quality UIs a hard problem. The high performance you get from rendering exclusively on the GPU is only viable if you don't try to do any of the things people have come to expect from high quality UIs.

Want high quality antialiased fonts? Sure, you can use something like texture atlassing, and it will be extremely fast, but that approach becomes far more difficult if you want to do anything beyond supporting basic Latin character sets.

Want high quality antialiased vector graphics? Sure, you could use compute shaders to convert bezier paths to triangles, but that approach only works if you don't want to support older graphics cards, which most people still have.

It's called fast path / slow path, it's how everything works.
