He works at Remedy so maybe? I don't understand the claim that rendering UI and text is inherently complex somehow. I have written UI renderers for several games (and a slideshow program) and I don't think it is that hard??

I'm not sure what you mean. Give me a UI framework that does all the basics better and faster, and I'll use it. I'm not defending the browser stack by any means.

Why not make it yourself?

The problem is, which is the same problem with many apps besides the web (and stuff you've talked about and I agree with), is that computers have got so fast, people don't care about perf anymore. It still matters though, and most software today is way too slow.
-
All I'm saying is that making highly interactive software is actually pretty hard, and the tools we have to do it are not very good. I don't think anyone wants to make slow software. As an individual software dev, I can't make my own browser that's fast.

It’s interesting your default (and unwavering!) position is that Riho is ignorant and that all browsers are poorly written. Maybe take a look? They’re all open source.

Why do you remark that Johnathan is being "unwavering"? Is that somehow remarkable? Do you instantly buckle on your position in an argument when someone tries to contradict it? Do you think Riho made better points than Jonathan? From my view it was completely one-sided for J.
