I've heard various people calling for more optimistic sci-fi. But what are good examples of optimistic sci-fi? (Other than Star Trek). I tried searching for it and most movies didn't seem particularly optimistic. Tomorrowland is probably the closest. What else?
By restricting the search to movies, you are kind of throwing away most good sci-fi to begin with. Lots of literary sci-fi had a non-negative view of the future, until cyberpunk came around. After all, being excited about ideas of the future was the basis of the genre.
I know that asking for -movies- is restrictive, but that's why I was interested in that! I can think of books, but not as easily of movies, but surely there must be movies out there.
The Martian is low sci-fi but I found the world building to be mostly positive. Interstellar ends with somewhat positive note (although, the world has regressed for the most of the movie)
If looking for ideas for optimistic sci-fi check out the venus project and works of Peter Joseph. Peter's last movie Interreflections might be considered as optimistic sci-fi.
