Looking on Netflix, every sci-fi show has the tag "Dystopian". I suspect there is a very big opportunity for a show-runner who can imagine stepping outside that mold.

Practically speaking, the people who interpret not dystopian as utopian in these comments may be missing the simple trick of just not being dystopian. Star Trek depicted a functioning future society with conflicts, right? Collapsed society futures are a little played out.
Right, one way of re-asking "why are these all dystopian" is, "why is there such a lack of imagination here?", and so when people reply with a similar lack of imagination, it is very frustrating.

Another interpretation is that people are lacking optimism instead of imagination. I can imagine idealistic futures, I just think they are improbable.

I mean, I don’t want to be mean about this, but no one said creativity was a common skill. The majority of people, without fault, enjoy the things they enjoy without being able to make them :) Speak to a general audience, don’t be disappointed you get general opinions!

Could also be an issue with the limited amount of data that can be communicated with tags. Imperfect present? Call it a drama. Imperfect future? Dystopian!
