How you know almost all of these gaming laptop reviews are fake: almost none of the laptops have trackpad buttons any more, as if you are supposed to somehow game with tap-to-click and software-induced dead times when you click or press a key. Yet no reviewer comments on this.

More than anything, I think Twitter is a weird tool for seeing bulk thoughtlessness. It's how you see the response people have because they absorbed it from the environment, not because they reached it from original thinking (because by volume most beliefs are the former).

Track pads are there only for the purpose of ordering a new mouse when your current one dies

Strongly disagree. I would never want to go back to having to click for everything.

One of my laptops has buttons and I haven't pressed them in years, tap is so much better.

For me it gets down to a personal preference. My notebook has buttons, but I rarely use them. Unless I have to drag and drop, where is more confortable to use the buttons

There are a lot of variables which led to this shift: every physically moving part on a device is something that can break. Something companies are worried about, you can see this with popup cameras on modern phones.

Secondly apple acted as catalyst with a full glass trackpad and really good integration with the software. Gestures were natural and the extra space was always welcome as the screens became wider. Atleast I was annoyed when I ran out of trackpad while trying to reach the edge.

Personally I used to prefer tap-to-click to using the buttons for “work” purposes. These days, I like the fake click thing that Apple’s trackpads do, which avoids the problems of tap-to-click and doesn’t require physical buttons either. No idea if any PC laptops do the same?
