For example javascript running on browser is 'safe' because of vm. So web developer cant crash your system. It is example of defensive and, for known reasons, slow operation.
-
dude, you don't need a JavaScript VM to prevent programs from crashing your system. that's a benefit of running programs in an OS with per-process virtual memory, which - guess what - we had 20 years ago!
-
Why you doesnt like vm? JavaScript is jit-compiled and pretty fast for dynamic language. It is no real sense to run web code in OS space, it will be run in container like js vm is.

It is 20x harder to crash your system if you will.

Maybe documents shouldn't run arbitrary code on my system to begin with?
