I wish web browsers were coded with the same low level care given to 90s video games. Or, any modern software. But mainly browsers.
-
I wish web pages would be coded by assembler hackers as well, it's mind boggling that, for example, how bad the Patreon site is. When you are writing a post with more than 3 lines on mobile you have to wait after each character for it to catch up.

-
Fast evolving tech encourages neglect and waste. It is technical restrictions which encourage optimal efficiency and good design. Within that restricted framework, our creations would mature and reach the apex of what is possible. Take the demoscene as an example.
-
Imagine a refreshing alternative to the web - designed around pages having fixed memory limits & code execution speed limits. I think very quickly we would see some ingenious websites being coded. Coders enjoy a challenge. Efficient frameworks would emerge.
-
I like this thread. We could make a browser with a 64K memory limit per tab.
-
the problem comes with streaming video, and pages which require quite a lot of images or text. 64k would be a very tight restriction for multimedia driven sites, and the user experience would surely suffer. 4MB per page is small change with even 1GB of ram, and allows much more.
-
Web pages could have a config sys file and request extended memory be available?
-
another approach is to separate out code and data harvard-style, so media doesn't form part of the 64k, and for example compressed images aren't decoded/expanded in the restricted cpu/memory space

Notwithstanding the fact that all your traffic is thus entirely intercepted by this private entity which can then hyper precise data about you to the highest bidder. Both technically and morally dubious, quite the tour de force.
