I don't think there are enough people seriously thinking about this stuff any more to sustain a community. Everyone is too busy just getting things to compile and run.
(Well, that's for people still working on technical stuff. Most game programmers now spend most of their time trying to figure out the Weird Unity Glitch of the Week.)
Man, that's so frustrating. Surely the folks are still out there. I don't know if they're all holed away in AAA studios or what, but maybe it just needs the right kick. :| I'd certainly participate.
