Is there anything out there I should read about job systems that is smart? Very hard to search for since almost everything is about Unity or else new programmers wanting to roll their own version of the Unity thing.

Uhh no, searching random peoples' code on github offers no reasonable guarantee that the code is a good idea.

Maybe the Naughty Dog GDC presentation from a few years back? It's a bit sparse on details though.https://www.gdcvault.com/play/1022186/Parallelizing-the-Naughty-Dog-Engine …

Here's a review of the ID tech job system. You've likely seen it before buts it's still a good read https://fabiensanglard.net/doom3_bfg/threading.php …

Please be aware that the Doom 3 BFG job code has significant problems. We rewrote the entire thing recently.

I think it was stalling quite a bit & not filling all the threads with work. The basic ideas are sound. Use a MPMC queue for jobs and each worker thread takes work from them.
