Why do you think that’s true? I think there’s a big difference between don’t know and don’t care. I think is a “not giving a damn” thing.
My point is that people think they don't care, but the reality is they don't even know. This is important.
Is it now at the point where the complexity is just too much for anyone to handle? Like back in the Amiga 500 days you could conceivably understand the whole system and write a program, but these days it would take a lifetime to understand and to write one program??
This would also explain in part why things like #pico8 are gaining popularity.
