Sometimes our standards are too low. Lyft's swift app is 380k loc and compiles in 5 mins (https://twitter.com/ScottBerrevoets/status/1151228835947401216 …). JAI (unreleased C++-like lang by @Jonathan_Blow) aims for 1 million loc under a second. That's 600x faster for roughly equivalent language.

To be fair, we are not at that speed yet; you should only compare like for like. Right now we compile 100k loc/sec on one core.

Also, do you aim for that speed optimized? or the janky raw x64 output? As far as I understood you aim for that speed during development, not for optimized builds. Comparing that is not as straightforward (that said, several dozen times faster would still be true, and awesome)

Yes, that is debug build. Optimized build currently takes like 15 seconds but there is a lot of work we can do there. (Long-term solution is to move off LLVM).
