I am digging through some old emails, for a presentation I am giving in a few days ...

Most professionals don't reach the point when surface forms become a tool to express ideas as the most important process, rather than novel ideas motivating better surface forms as paramount. The work put into presentation is essential to convince there are ideas worth extracting

This! I value a developer who has put at least some effort into the visual presentation instead of just going overly technical with little to no art. Even for a prototype and general morale, it’s worth putting the time into both learning and making the polish and eye candy.

The cold hard truth is that no matter how technically impressive something is, not many will bother to experience it if something doesn’t draw them in- nice graphics, sound, UI. Otherwise their perception is that it’s simply a bad game.

Isn't that the reason why people are so hyped about Cyberpunk-like games? Good visuals, cool looking cutscenes and everyone is on fire already. Nobody cares about what new features it brings on the table.

I love how people just ignore your remark about professionals who are supposed to see the deeper workings of a game but agree with your last tweet on how polish helps to sell a game. Like it's such a good thing that we should praise.

There was a study that was done in I believe Israel, on ATMs. Some were well designed, others less so, but they worked identically. People considered the worse- looking models "broken" at a significantly higher rate.

Had no idea you went through all that with Braid initially. That's crazy.

What kind of polish are you talking about here? Isn't that what finding an artist was for? :P
