(11ms one-way, not round-trip, of course. You can get 11ms round-trip by just having a data center in Chicago).

It does just bring up the question- should players who are fortunate to have an excellent setup, fast ethernet internet and are located close to datacenters be given potentially game changing power over people who aren’t fortunate enough / can’t afford / etc. other misc reasons ?

On one hand- this person paid more money and are in some cases luckier. On the other hand this turns the back to anyone who wants to enjoy your game but might not have the know-how or financial ability to compete in this way (most casual gamers)

Depends on how hardcore the game is- is it highly competitive and fair play is a priority over a good experience? Then by all means eliminate any kind of client side checks or ping gate players over a certain ms from joining games.

In general though as games are today, even with the client side leeway, if you have a lower ping and ethernet connection, you still very much have an advantage. The only case where you may not is if a laggy client shoots you around a corner which can be alleviated with a ping cap
