I'm being thoroughly beaten to a pulp by Unity's issues playing back videos from asset bundles on Android. 2019.1, bundle is uncompressed, tried every method to load the bundle or to reference the video, but "Make sure file exists, is on disk (not in memory) and not compressed."

It's kind of sad that one of our flagship products' entire sales pitch is "less of a disaster than the default video playback option on your target", but it is what it is

okay, not the entire sales pitch. There's also the "you may have no idea why the colors come out slightly wrong after your render->export->encode->display pipe, but we have literally seen it all before, and we know how to debug it in 20 minutes" bit

Serves me right for thinking the other day that
@Jonathan_Blow was overdoing it and "surely things can't be that bad anymore". /goes back to animated gif1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -
Someone who just shipped a game on Unity told me "asset bundles don't really work, there are tons of bugs with them everywhere, you just don't want to use them."

I am mystified by this because every game I ever worked on ran fine with either loose files or bundled assets. So they must have screwed something up really badly. Whatevs, par for the course in 2019.
