Thats because you can time-shift purchases (and thus delay if there is deflation, causing a deflationary spiral) but you cannot time shift your own employment (or most people cannot). So one is problematic and the other is not.

Googling % of people living paycheck to paycheck in the us i get something like 75-80% of US workers. For that segment i don't think time-shifting employment is viable.

Also, when leftists say that workers real salary is worse than in the past, they are referring to the material conditions. Not just that specific aspect of the current economy. Other tweaks than just forcing up the wages would likely be necessary.
